Norwegian Bridge Crumbles Under Torrential Rainfall

A railway bridge in southeastern Norway collapsed into a swollen river due to damage to its central foundation caused by torrential rain. The collapse occurred as authorities were investigating the extent of the damage. The bridge had been closed to traffic a week prior due to concerns about its stability. The heavy rain also led to the evacuation of thousands and caused a hydroelectric river dam to collapse and a train derailment in neighboring Sweden. Storm Hans caused transportation disruption, flooding, and power cuts across the Nordic and Baltic region, resulting in at least three deaths.
