Russian-Ukrainian Conflict Escalates with Drones and Naval Attacks

Russia's claim of sinking Ukraine's last warship, the Yuri Olefirenko, would have almost no impact on Ukraine's naval power, according to experts. The vessel was a landing vessel used for transporting troops and vehicles, including tanks, but was not a large amphibious ship. Ukraine's real amphibious capability is of a far different nature: small fast raiding craft. The sinking of the Yuri Olefirenko would have no impact on the defense of Ukraine's coast or launching an amphibious attack on the annexed Crimean peninsula. The ship was of little value to the Ukrainians and its destruction has more symbolic or propaganda value.
