Russian General in Ukraine Dies Amid Controversy and Illness

Russian Colonel General Gennady Zhidko, who was relieved of his command in Ukraine after a series of defeats, has died in Moscow after a "long illness," according to an official. Zhidko was heavily involved in the Russian attack on Ukraine but was removed from his post in October 2022. The cause of his death has not been disclosed, leading to speculation of poisoning. Zhidko is not the first Russian commander to die since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
