Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love, has delayed the release of her upcoming novel, The Snow Forest, due to backlash from Ukrainian readers over its setting in Russia. The novel was set to be released in February 2024, but Gilbert has decided to remove it from the release calendar after receiving criticism from Ukrainians. The novel follows a group of individuals who make a decision to remove themselves from society in order to resist the Soviet government. Gilbert will focus on other projects in the meantime and will refund any preorders of the novel.
