Swiss Writer Jailed for Homophobic Slur, LGBTQ Community Applauds

A Swiss writer and commentator, Alain Bonnet, also known as Alain Soral, has been sentenced to 60 days in prison for defamation, discrimination, and incitement to hatred after calling a journalist a "fat lesbian" in a Facebook video. LGBTQ+ groups have applauded the decision, stating that it sends a strong signal against homophobic hatred. In addition to the prison sentence, Soral has been ordered to pay fines and legal fees. He plans to appeal the decision. This is not the first time Soral has faced legal trouble for his words, as he has previously been convicted in France for denying the Holocaust.
