Dozens detained at Istanbul Pride despite ban

More than 60 people were detained at Istanbul Pride as thousands defied a government ban to march in the Şişli district. Pride events have been systematically banned in Turkey since 2015, with even picnics and film screenings being targeted with bans during Pride Month. Amnesty International has warned of the “brazen and deepening crackdown” LGBTQ+ people face in Turkey. Despite the ban, activists in different cities across the country plan to go ahead with Pride events.
