Marine's Family to Reopen Defamation Lawsuit Against Alec Baldwin

The family of Marine Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum, who was killed in Afghanistan, plans to refile a $25 million lawsuit accusing actor Alec Baldwin of defamation. The original lawsuit was dismissed by a federal judge, who invited the family to rewrite and resubmit it. The lawsuit alleges that Baldwin subjected the family to online threats and harassment after he posted and commented on a photo shared by one of McCollum's sisters, who had been in Washington during the January 6, 2021 insurrection. The new lawsuit will address the issues raised by the judge, including defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Baldwin had donated $5,000 to the family after learning of McCollum's death but later shared the sister's photo with his Instagram followers, saying "Good luck."
