Indonesia Seizes Iran-flagged Tanker for Suspected Illegal Oil Transfer

Indonesian authorities have seized an Iranian tanker, MT Arman 114, and arrested its crew members for illegally transferring oil to another vessel in Indonesia's exclusive economic zone. The tanker was caught conducting the illegal transshipment of 2.3 million barrels of crude oil worth $305 million to the Cameroon-flagged tanker, MT S Tinos. The Iranian tanker fled towards Malaysian territorial waters, spilling oil in the process, but was later arrested by the Indonesian Coast Guard with the help of its Malaysian counterpart. The tanker is facing multiple violations, and authorities are escorting it to Batam island for further investigation. This is not the first time Indonesian authorities have seized an Iranian tanker for illegal oil transfer.
