Al Jazeera Seeks Justice for Slain Cameraman in Gaza, Takes Case to War Crimes Court

Al Jazeera is preparing to submit a legal file to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the killing of its cameraman, Samer Abu Daqqa, in Gaza. Abu Daqqa was reportedly killed by an Israeli drone strike while reporting on the bombing of a school used as a shelter for displaced people. Al Jazeera plans to include in the file recurrent attacks on its crews in the occupied Palestinian territories and instances of incitement against them. The Israeli army denies deliberately targeting journalists and states that remaining in an active combat zone carries inherent risks. The ICC already has an ongoing investigation into alleged crimes committed on Palestinian territory, and Israel does not recognize the court's jurisdiction.
