Abandoned: Former US Marine's Ordeal in Russian Prison

Former US marine Paul Whelan, who is serving a 16-year sentence in a Russian prison on espionage charges, feels "abandoned" by his country and left out of recent prisoner swaps negotiated between Russia and the United States. Whelan, who denies the charges, described the harsh conditions in the prison and expressed concern about his situation. The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has expressed a desire to find a solution for Whelan's release, but the US State Department says Russia has refused all offers for his release.
