Tragedy in Zanzibar: 9 Dead After Consuming Sea Turtle Meat

Eight children and an adult have died in Zanzibar after consuming contaminated sea turtle meat, with 78 others hospitalized. The incident occurred on Pemba Island, and authorities have warned against consuming sea turtles due to the risk of chelonitoxism, a rare and potentially fatal type of food poisoning associated with marine turtles. This is not the first time Zanzibar has experienced deaths from contaminated sea turtle meat, with a previous incident in 2021.
