Russia Implements Electronic Draft System for Military Recruitment

Russian authorities have approved a bill that will allow conscripts and reservists to be served with a draft summons electronically, making it almost impossible to dodge. The new system will collect personal data from the tax office, several government ministries and other Russian authorities, and once the summons is uploaded, the draftee is considered to have been “served”. Those who fail to show up will be banned from leaving Russia and will no longer be able to take out loans, register property or work as entrepreneurs. The electronic system is an upgrade of an outdated system and is not currently planning another mobilisation drive.
