Teacher's Suspension Sparks Controversy Over Pro-Palestinian Email

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has filed a discrimination complaint on behalf of a Black Muslim Arab American teacher in Maryland who was placed on administrative leave for including a controversial pro-Palestinian phrase in her email signature. The phrase, "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," has been accused of being antisemitic by some Jewish groups. The teacher claims that the school district's policy on email signatures was selectively enforced, as other teachers had political and social justice quotes in their signatures. The complaint alleges discrimination based on race and religion and violation of civil rights laws. CAIR has received numerous bias incident reports involving discrimination against people voicing support for Palestinians.
