Canada recalls 41 diplomats from India amidst escalating tensions

Canada has withdrawn 41 diplomats from India in response to New Delhi's demand to reduce its diplomatic presence following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's claim of a potential link between Indian agents and the murder of a Sikh separatist leader in Canada. Canada's Foreign Minister Melanie Joly called India's threat to revoke the diplomats' official status unreasonable and a violation of the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations. Canada will not take retaliatory steps and now has 21 diplomats remaining in India. India has dismissed Trudeau's suspicions as absurd, and the departure of diplomats will result in a reduction in embassy staff dealing with immigration.
