China and Nauru have restored diplomatic relations after Nauru cut ties with Taiwan, a move seen as part of China's efforts to isolate Taipei. The resumption of ties was formalized in a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Nauru’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Lionel Aingimea in Beijing. Nauru's decision to switch allegiance came just after Taiwan's election, leaving it with only 12 remaining diplomatic allies.
