Vatican Court Sentences Cardinal Becciu to Prison for Embezzlement and Fraud

The Vatican court has sentenced Cardinal Angelo Becciu to five and a half years in prison for embezzlement and abuse of office. Becciu, along with nine other individuals and four companies, was found guilty of financial misconduct related to a botched real estate deal in London and other unrelated misconduct. The court ordered confiscations of over $181 million and imposed fines on the defendants. Becciu is the first cardinal to be convicted under the Vatican's civil court system and will serve his sentence under Italian authorities.
