The Tunisian national guardsman who killed five people in an attack on the Ghriba synagogue on the island of Djerba targeted the shrine in a premeditated act, according to Tunisia's interior minister. The gunman, Wissam Khazri, was a member of the Tunisian National Guard affiliated with the naval center in the island’s port town of Aghir. The attack, which killed three police officers and two visitors, was not immediately classified as terrorism. The motive for the attack is still under investigation.
