Seun Kuti detained after alleged police assault in Nigeria.

Nigerian musician Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, appeared in court after being arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer. Kuti claimed the officer had tried to harm him and his family. A Lagos court denied a request by prosecutors to detain Kuti for 21 days and gave them 48 hours to grant him bail if they don't file a charge. Kuti could face up to three years in prison if convicted. He has been a vocal advocate against police brutality and has performed worldwide with his late father's former band, Egypt 80.
