Prison Officer Sentenced for Inappropriate Relationship with Inmate

Katie Loxton, a female prison officer at HMP Oakwood in Staffordshire, has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for misconduct in a public office after having a six-month affair with inmate Adam Higgs. Loxton and Higgs communicated through a fake contact on Higgs's cell phone, bypassing the prison's security system. They exchanged over 3,400 calls and spent more than 380 hours on the phone together. Loxton also transmitted images/sounds from within the prison. This case is part of a larger trend, with a record number of prison officers being caught having affairs in recent years.
