A Pakistani couple has been sentenced to life in prison by an Italian court for the murder of their daughter, Saman Abbas, who refused an arranged marriage. The court ruled that the parents ordered the murder, while an uncle strangled her. The uncle received a 14-year sentence, while two cousins were acquitted. Abbas had previously reported her parents to the police and was placed in a shelter, but she visited her family in April 2021 and disappeared shortly after. Surveillance footage showed five people leaving the family home with tools, and a year later, Abbas's body was found with a broken neck.
