Former Indian MP Atiq Ahmed shot dead on live TV while in police custody.

A former Indian lawmaker, convicted of kidnapping, was shot dead along with his brother while in police custody for a medical check-up. The assailants, who had posed as journalists, were quickly detained. The two victims were allegedly kingpins in a local criminal organization. The state government has ordered a judicial probe into the killings, and fearing violent unrest, has barred gatherings of more than four people across the entire state.
