Chinese Nationals Among Victims in Deadly Attack on DRC Gold Convoy

Two Chinese nationals and two others were killed in an attack on a gold convoy in the lawless east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The attackers, believed to be from the neighboring Maniema region, stole parcels of gold and fled into the bush. China is a major investor in the DRC's mineral mining industry, and tensions and violence between locals and Chinese mining firms have been ongoing in the South Kivu province.
