Assassination in Sofia: Bulgaria's Controversial Businessman Killed

Alexey Petrov, a former secret agent turned businessman in Bulgaria, was shot dead in broad daylight in Sofia. Petrov had previously survived two assassination attempts. He had a controversial career, running a major insurance company and serving as an adviser to the head of the State Agency for National Security. Petrov was known for his involvement in organized crime and was arrested in 2010 on charges of running a criminal group engaged in various illegal activities. He was released on bail and acquitted.
