The incident highlights Russia's inability to control security within its borders, with the military being sent to their deaths near Avdiivka instead of securing the border. The clash began in the village of Terebreno, with residents taking cover in shelters. This is not the first incursion into the Belgorod region, as similar incidents occurred in May 2022 when pro-Ukrainian groups crossed the border from Ukraine into Russia.
