Restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral continues four years after devastating fire.

Four years after the devastating fire that destroyed Notre Dame's spire, engineers are rebuilding it to its original specifications using 1,000 oak trees from around France. The spire was not original to the cathedral, but was added in the 19th century by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. Once the reconstruction is complete, the 16 copper statues that adorned the spire will be restored to their original positions. The restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
