Fatal Alligator Attack Claims Life of 69-Year-Old Woman in South Carolina

A 69-year-old woman was killed by an alligator while walking her dog in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. This marks the second fatal alligator attack in Beaufort County in less than a year. The woman's body was found at the edge of a lagoon in a residential community, and emergency efforts to revive her were interrupted by an alligator guarding her. The 9-foot, 9-inch male alligator was euthanized. Fatal alligator attacks have become more common due to encroachment on their habitats, and attacks are more likely near bodies of water and when accompanied by pets.
