USA advances to WBC semifinals with 5-3 win over Canada

USA outlasted Canada 5-3 in Houston to book a World Baseball Classic semifinal berth against the Dominican Republic. Starter Logan Webb gave up a leadoff homer but then worked 4 2/3 scoreless innings, while David Bednar escaped a seventh-inning jam to close out the win. The U.S. built a 5-0 lead behind timely hits from the bottom of the order and fielding miscues by Canada, then withstood a late Canadian rally capped by Bo Naylor’s two-run homer, as the Americans improved to 5-1 lifetime against Canada in the WBC.
