San Francisco's APEC Summit: From Homelessness to Clean Streets

In preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, San Francisco has made efforts to patch over its homelessness and drug abuse issues, including cleaning up areas known for these problems and implementing beautification projects. However, critics argue that these temporary measures do not address the underlying issue of affordable housing shortage. San Francisco has one of the highest homelessness rates in the country, and forcing homeless individuals to move will not solve the problem. Some residents have also noticed homeless encampments being pushed into other neighborhoods.
