Series of Earthquakes Shake Bay Area on Friday Night

Two earthquakes, with magnitudes of 2.9 and 3.7, hit the Bay Area on Friday night. The epicenter of the larger quake was near Millbrae. Despite initial reports of a 4.0 magnitude, it was later downgraded to a 3.7. No injuries or significant damage were reported, but residents from multiple cities felt the shaking. Some social media users expressed surprise at not receiving ShakeAlerts, but the USGS explained that alerts are not sent for quakes below magnitude 4.5.
