Authorities in the Russian city of Orenburg have called for a mass evacuation as rapidly rising flood waters, caused by melting snow and ice, pose a perilous threat to the region. The Ural river has reached dangerous levels, prompting the evacuation of parts of the city, while neighboring Kazakhstan has already evacuated 100,000 people. The situation is also critical in the neighboring Kurgan region, where the village of Kaminskoye is being evacuated and a deluge could reach the city of Kurgan in the coming days.
