Jann Wenner's Controversial Comments and Legacy Shake the Music Industry

Jann Wenner, founder of Rolling Stone, has faced criticism and backlash for excluding Black and female musicians from his upcoming book, The Masters. The Black Music Action Coalition called Wenner's remarks "offensive and absurd erasure" and condemned the persistent bias within the music industry. Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid expressed gratitude that Wenner's comments brought attention to the hierarchical structure of the industry and named several artists who deserve recognition. Wenner was subsequently removed from the Board of Directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. Wenner issued an apology, acknowledging that his comments diminished the contributions of Black and women artists.
