Russia fired hypersonic Kinzhal missiles at Kyiv on Tuesday, with Ukraine claiming to have shot down all six, and Russia claiming one got through air defences to destroy a U.S.-built Patriot surface-to-air anti-missile defence system. The Kinzhal is an air-launched ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear or conventional warheads, with a reported range of 1,500 to 2,000 km and speeds of up to Mach 10. It is one of six "next generation" weapons unveiled by President Vladimir Putin in 2018, and Russia claims to be the global leader in hypersonic missiles.
