Separated by Borders: Afghan Teen Finds Refuge in the U.S. while Family Remains in Kabul

A teenager, known as BH, was separated from his family during the chaos at Kabul International Airport as the Taliban took over in 2021. He ended up in the United States alone and has been living in Virginia, working and attending high school. BH's family remains in Kabul, facing danger and uncertainty. Despite the challenges, BH is determined to succeed and has received support from a local church and community. He is working towards becoming a permanent resident and dreams of studying computer programming. BH frequently communicates with his family and sends them money when possible, but he longs for the safety and normalcy he once had in Afghanistan.
