HBO has renewed True Detective for a fifth season following the success of the Season 4 finale, which reached a season high in viewership. Showrunner Issa Lopez, who took over from original creator Nic Pizzolatto, has also secured a new overall deal with the network. The latest season, "Night Country," set in Ennis, Alaska, garnered over 12.7 million cross-platform viewers and featured Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as the lead detectives. Lopez directed and co-wrote all six episodes, and the season also starred Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlanc, and John Hawkes.
