Progress Made in WGA Talks as CEOs and Writers Near Deal

Four Hollywood CEOs, including Bob Iger of Disney and Ted Sarandos of Netflix, returned to negotiations with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) for a second day, with hopes of progress towards ending the 143-day strike. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) made moves in various areas, including offering a success-based residual for streaming shows. The WGA has proposed a viewership-based residual and demanded a minimum staff size for TV shows. Discussions also focused on the use of artificial intelligence (AI), with the WGA insisting that AI systems not be allowed to train on writers' scripts. Optimism for a deal has been generated, but the WGA has cautioned against raising false hopes.
