Florida Officials Reverse Ban, Allowing AP Psychology to be Taught in its Entirety

Florida's education commissioner, Manny Diaz Jr, has stated in a letter to state superintendents that the Advanced Placement (AP) Psychology course can be taught "in its entirety," despite concerns that it violated the state's new law prohibiting instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity. The College Board, which develops AP classes, expressed optimism that Florida teachers would now be able to teach the full course, including content on gender and sexual orientation. However, the confusion surrounding the issue has left parents and students uncertain about their plans for the upcoming academic year. This situation follows Florida's previous ban on an AP African American studies course earlier this year.
