US Army Charges Private Travis King with Desertion for Crossing into North Korea

U.S. soldier Travis King, who crossed into North Korea from South Korea earlier this year, has been charged with desertion, assaulting soldiers and officers, soliciting and possessing child pornography, making false statements, and disobeying superior officers. King's mother expressed concern about his mental health and requested that he be presumed innocent. He entered North Korea on foot during a guided tour and had previously faced possible disciplinary action from the U.S. Army. After spending time in a South Korean jail on assault charges, he was deported from North Korea and returned to U.S. custody.
