Oscar Pistorius Granted Parole After 10 Years for Girlfriend's Murder

Oscar Pistorius, the South African Paralympian convicted of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, will be released on parole in January 2024. Pistorius, known as the "Blade Runner," shot Steenkamp four times through his bathroom door on Valentine's Day 2013, claiming he mistook her for a burglar. After a trial that gained international attention, Pistorius was initially convicted of culpable homicide but later had his conviction overturned for a higher charge of murder. He was ultimately sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison. Pistorius's parole bid was initially denied but was later granted after a court ruled that the minimum detention period had been miscalculated. His release will come with conditions, including attending an anger management course and not leaving the region of Pretoria without permission.
