French Court Convicts 6 Teens for Teacher's Beheading

Six teenagers have been convicted by a French juvenile court for their involvement in the beheading of a teacher in 2020. The teacher, Samuel Paty, was killed after showing his class cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad during a debate on free expression. Five of the defendants, aged 14 and 15 at the time, were found guilty of identifying the teacher for the attacker, while another defendant, aged 13, was found guilty of lying about the classroom debate. The teenagers received brief or suspended prison terms and were required to stay in school or jobs with regular checkups. The trial for eight adults suspected of involvement in the killing is expected to start next year.
