Former Memphis Police Officer Pleads Guilty in Tyre Nichols' Murder Case

Former Memphis police officer Desmond Mills Jr. has pleaded guilty to federal charges and agreed to plead guilty to related state charges in connection with the death of Tyre Nichols. Mills has also agreed to testify against his four fellow ex-officers and cooperate in the federal civil rights investigation into the Memphis Police Department. Prosecutors will recommend a 15-year prison sentence for Mills, pending the judge's decision. The plea agreement has the support of the Nichols family and their legal counsel. Nichols, a Black man, died after being violently beaten by Memphis police officers during a traffic stop, sparking protests and reigniting the debate over policing and racial disparities.
