Child's Death and Hospitalizations at Bronx Daycare Spark Opioid Exposure Investigation

Two suspects have been indicted and a third is being sought by police after a one-year-old child died and three other young children were hospitalized due to opioid exposure at a day care in the Bronx. The suspects, Carlisto Acevedo Brito and Grei Mendez, have been charged with murder, manslaughter, and assault. Drug production equipment was found inside the home-based day care, and investigators believe the children had been exposed to the unknown opioids over an extended period. The surviving children will undergo tests to determine the drugs they were exposed to. The day care recently passed an inspection with no violations found.
