The FBI has launched a federal criminal investigation into the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore after a cargo ship, Dali, crashed into one of its supports, killing six people. The investigation will focus on whether the crew of the cargo vessel knew about serious problems with its systems before leaving the port. Safety investigators have recovered the ship's "black box" recorder, and work to clear the wreckage and restore traffic through the port's shipping channel is ongoing. The same ship was involved in a 2016 incident in Belgium and had propulsion and auxiliary machinery deficiencies in a 2023 inspection in Chile.
