Surviving and Documenting the Ukrainian War Zone

Mstyslav Chernov, a video journalist with the Associated Press, and his team stayed behind in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol during the Russian invasion in February 2022, capturing footage for a documentary titled "20 Days in Mariupol." Chernov wanted to document the city's descent into chaos and show the impact on civilians. The team witnessed the destruction, suffering, and bravery of the people trapped in the war zone. Despite the danger, they felt it was crucial to record everything for future war crimes investigations and the history of Ukraine. The documentary will premiere on PBS FRONTLINE on November 21.
