Escalating Conflict in Eastern Ukraine Leaves Devastating Impact on Civilians

The commander of Ukraine's ground forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has stated that fighting in the northeast region of the country has "significantly worsened" in recent days, with Russian forces regrouping and launching attacks near the village of Makiivka and towards the city of Kupiansk. The objective of the enemy is to defeat Ukrainian troops, encircle Kupiansk, and reach the Oskil River. Russian forces are reportedly carrying out numerous assaults daily, but Ukrainian troops are holding their ground. This escalation comes as Kremlin forces continue to bombard the strategic city of Avdiivka in a separate offensive. While Ukraine has made some progress in its counteroffensive, gains have been incremental.
