Stranded Drivers Face Nevada Desert Detour During F1 Weekend

During Formula One weekend, a family traveling from Los Angeles to Las Vegas was led astray by Google Maps, which suggested a detour through the desert due to a dust storm that closed Interstate 15. The detour left them stranded in the middle of the desert near Sandy Valley, Nevada, with no way to turn around. After two hours, they managed to return to the interstate, but Google Maps continued to direct them towards the same route. Google has since apologized and stated that they will no longer route drivers through those roads. The family incurred $5,000 worth of car repairs and had to book a flight back to Los Angeles.
