Apple Expands In-House Technology: From Modems to Cameras, Screens, and More

Apple is reportedly planning to develop its own custom modem for cellular MacBook models, with a potential release date of 2028. The company has been working on its own modem since 2018 to move away from Qualcomm's component used in iPhones. Apple's custom technology aspirations also include integrating the modem into its system-on-a-chip (SoC), which could lead to MacBooks with built-in cellular connectivity. The company may need a few more years to integrate the chip into cellular versions of the Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac. Other in-house chip projects include camera sensors, batteries, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips, Micro-LED displays, and a non-invasive glucose monitoring system.
