Understanding the Shift: Riot IDs Replacing Summoner Names

Riot Games will be transitioning from "Summoner Names" to "Riot IDs" on November 20, 2023, in order to create a more unified experience across all their games. This change aligns with the evolving lore of Runeterra and League of Legends, where the focus shifted from Summoners to Champions. Players do not need to take any action as they already have a Riot ID, and they will receive a free name change every 365 days. Additional name changes can be purchased for approximately $10 USD in in-game currency. The transition will be accompanied by updates on other currencies and more free name changes in the future.
