Playable Zelda: A Possibility for the Future, According to TOTK Devs and Nintendo

The producers of Tears of the Kingdom, the latest installment in The Legend of Zelda series, hinted at the possibility of Zelda becoming a playable character in a future release. While Zelda had her own story in Tears of the Kingdom, she was not playable. Producer Eiji Aonuma and director Hidemaro Fujibayashi acknowledged the potential for Zelda's role to grow and expressed openness to the idea. They also discussed the decision to have Zelda transform into a dragon and deliver the Master Sword to Link, as well as the non-linear storytelling approach in the game. The producers remained tight-lipped about the nature of the relationship between Link and Zelda, leaving it up to the players' interpretation.
