Final Fantasy 6 director Yoshinori Kitase stated that a remake similar to Final Fantasy 7's could take around 20 years to complete due to the game's depth and extensive content, with many characters. Despite the popularity of the idea within Square Enix, Kitase emphasized that a Final Fantasy 6 remake won't be considered until the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy is finished. The project's difficulty was further elaborated on by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, who highlighted the challenges of overhauling the original game's pixel art and 2D format.
