Tennessee State University Makes History as First HBCU to Offer Ice Hockey

Tennessee State University will become the first historically Black college and university (HBCU) in the United States to offer hockey as a sport. The university plans to form a men's club hockey team and eventually transition to NCAA Division I status. The announcement was made in partnership with the NHL, NHL Players' Association, Nashville Predators, and College Hockey Inc. TSU's decision to offer club hockey follows a feasibility study funded by the NHL and NHLPA. The team will play home games at one of the Predators' facilities, and TSU is actively searching for a director of club hockey operations. This move is seen as a significant step forward for the sport and the HBCU community.
